In Compassion Buddha Retreat House, an honor system, self-care residence, guests are respectfully requested to abide by the following guidelines:
  • All guests agree to observe the 5 precepts (no killing  lying, stealing, intoxicants, or sexual misconduct) while living at Compassion Buddha Retreat House.
  • People of all lineages are welcome; all guests are requested to honor the advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, related to kindness, virtue and avoiding practices he has identified as harmful.
  • Stays are self-care; guests provide their own food, transportation, and housekeeping. A local person is available to help with any of these, at the discretion of the guest, at an extremely kind and reasonable hourly rate. She can also be engaged to clean the house at the end of a stay, at that same rate.
  • The scale to stay in the house is as follows: up to one-week free stays are offered to the ordained, and after that, we would request $3-5 per day. For lay people: $10 per day is requested from employees at Dharma centers; $15 per day from other guests. Special arrangements can be made for those who would like to offer work and request a lower fee. Group rentals can also be arranged.
  • No pets can stay inside the house due to the needs of other guests; there is no tv or wifi; a computer is available for use at a small restaurant nearby for a small charge and a wifi connection can be used at the grocery store. Personal dvd players (with earphones) are fine; a house phone is supplied for local calls; you can use your cell phone (Verizon works there, others do not) or calling card for long-distance. Please do not make alterations to the house without talking to Tenzin Lhamo first.
  • Towels, linens, cleaning supplies, and kitchen essentials will be provided; guests will do their own laundry, cleaning, etc, and are sincerely requested to leave things as they would hope to find them upon arriving. If additional cleaning, replacement of broken items, and/or repairs are needed after a stay, reimbursement will be requested (please let us know as soon as possible if things are broken or damaged.
  • Feedback is also very welcome and highly valued, as this is definitely a work-in-progress, clearly arising in mutual interdependence.

Thank you.
